What can be done to make tourism to Machu Picchu more sustainable?


i.e. to maximise the benefits of tourism and minimise the costs in such a fragile destination.

    - raise awareness tourists among the respect of the Machu Picchu site
    - Stop helicopters tours
    - Limit and control the number of tourists
    - Employ locally

    Raise awereness among visitors about sustainability
    Limiting the number of visitors per day at an acceptable scale
    Forbid helicopters flights

    Social:
    Implement social taxes on sales ticket in order to improve community life style

    Economic:
    Raise the minimum wage
    Implement new work activities such as industry in order to limit seasonality and dependency

  6. Firstly, to make tourism to Machu Picchu more sustainable, Government will need to be more focus on the protection of the area, and on the economy.
    Better control of the area should be done, to limit access to tourist.

    - Diminution of the sound polution
    - Adapt places to welcome more tourist without damaging the tourist sites
    - Educate tourist
    - Control the influx of tourist : a number of visits per day
    - Involve more local people in the tourist circuit
    - Respect the local culture and tradition, prevent tourists from its importance

  10. Social: Limit the access to Machu Picchu at x visitors / year & oblige visitors to adapt to the local habits/behaviour/culture.

    Economical: Keep employees during low season in order to restore environment.

    Ecological: The two previous ones help preserving environment.

  11. What can be done to make tourism to Machu Picchu more sustainable ?
    - Forbid the food on the site
    - Limit the number of tourists by increasing the price of the entrance
    - The tourist train and shuttles must be green
    - Employ more guardians on the site to control the tourist behaviour
    - Some critical areas must be forbidden to tourists
    - Forbid the sunscreen ( the quality of the rock suffers of that )
    - Improve the security on the site to make sure that people do not touch walls

  12. Maximise benefits : Governement should make more infrastructures for the tourists that can also benefit to residents, Build schools and encourage foreigne languages learning.

    Minimise Costs: Encourage traditional values and traditions, Sensibilise tourists to their impacts and polution.

  21. The idea resides in regulating the tourism frequency: Limiting per period a certain amount of people to visit the site.
    A survey which intend to know the local people thought about the Machu Picchu site's frequency could permit the tourism industry to take a decision in relation to the people.

  22. For economic point, it can be done an annual local employment with paid little bit more consequently and develop new activities on the low season. Use the earned money by tourism for the country development.

    For an environmental point, it is preferable to forget the plan to build a road. Decrease the visitor number to preserve the Machu Picchu site.

    And for a social point, it is to put more police in street to decrease the crime in this area. Encourage the preservation about the cultural lifestyles and keep the behaviour of local people.
